Chose one of the following

1. Balanced budgets are fine for an economic system that cannot go wrong. Explain the theoretical basis of the above statement by considering (a) what it is implied in words «an economic system that cannot go wrong », (b) what is implied in relation to fiscal policies for a system that may go wrong.

2. Compare the relationship between savings and investment in the UK Cambridge Keynesian approach with either the Neoclassical theory or the Classical and the Marxian theory.

3. Does Rational Expectations Theory depend on General Equilibrium Theory? Explain and highlight the limitations of the Representative Agent approach

4. What is the link, if any, between value and distribution in the Classics, Marx, and in Wicksellian capital theory? What is their common element?

5. Discuss the relationship between Rational Expectations and the Efficient Market Hypothesis.

6. Describe the Neoclassical-Keynesian synthesis and explain why Joan Robinson labelled it as ‘bastard Keynesian’.

7. What is the transformation problem? Describe its implications for Marxian theory of value and distribution and the tendency for the falling rate of profit.
